According to legend, these famous words inspired Josiah Bushnell Grinnell to leave New England and eventually found the town of Grinnell on the prairies of central Iowa. Although Grinnell has a population of only about 10,000, it is a community rich with history, architectural design, surrounded by areas of natural beauty and home to one the nation's foremost liberal arts colleges.
